Aloo Tikki is a popular indian street food snack recipe that is made of potatoes, spices, herbs and veggies. Aloo means potato in Hindi and Tikki means patty or cutlet. They are usually fried until golden and crispy, served with chutney or ketchup.

What is difference between Aloo Tikki And Aloo Tikki Chaat?

Aloo tikki is the fried or shallow fried potato patties while aloo tikka chaat is the potato patties served with chutneys, sev and yogurt. 

What Ingredients can be used for Aloo Tikki?

  • Potatoes: For the Tikkis boiled potatoes can be used.
  • Spices: Spices like black salt, salt, amchur powder, chaat masala and red chili powder
  • Ginger and Chili: Here you can use ginger chili paste too or you can add chopped ginger and chili.
  • Cilantro: handful of chopped cilantro always gives a vibrant color and taste.
  • Bread crumbs: Bread crumbs are using here for binding and it helps the tikki to be in shaped.
  • Corn Flour: Corn flour is optional but if your potatoes are too boiled, you can use for binding and it will give a very good crisp to tikkis too.
  • All Purpose Slurry : This is completely option. I like to make tikki crispy so i used all purpose flour slurry to shallow fry this.

Ingredients

  • 3 medium Potatoes

  • 1 tbsp ginge chili

  • 1/4 cup cilantro

  • 2 tbsp corn flour

  • 2 tbsp bread crumbs

  • 1 tbsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp black salt

  • 1 tsp red chili powder

  • 1 tsp turmeric

  • 4 tbsp oil

  • 2 tbsp al purpose flour (optional) + water

Directions

  • firstly, in a large mixing bowl take 3 boiled and grated potato. make sure to pressure cook potatoes for 4-5 whistles and drain off the water as soon as pressure releases.
  • add 1 chilli, 1 tsp ginger garlic paste, ¼ tsp turmeric and ½ tsp chilli powder.
  • add ½ tsp cumin powder, ½ tsp aamchur, ½ tsp chaat masala and ½ tsp salt.
  • Add 1/4 cup of cilantro.
  • now add 2 tbsp cornflour and mix well alternatively use poha powder or rice flour as it helps to absorb moisture.
  • Add 2 tbsp of bread crumbs and mix well forming a soft dough.
  • grease hand with oil and prepare ball-sized tikki.
  • Now take all purpose flour and water and make slurry of it.
  • deep the tikkis into this slurry.
  • 10. shallow fry in hot oil. you can alternatively roast or deep fry.
  • 11. roast on low flame until it turns golden brown.
  • 12. flip over and cook on both sides.
  • 13. finally, enjoy aloo tikki with green chutney, tamarind chutney or prepare aloo tikki chaat.

Notes

  • You can omit all purpose slurry. And instead of corn flour you can add poha as well. You can airfry these tikkis too.
